Carol Y. Guess, Esq., is a seasoned lawyer who has represented individuals and businesses with passion and professionalism. She was introduced to the entertainment and business worlds as a student at Vanderbilt University where she studied business management, and completed an internship at the CBS affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee. She became captivated by the worlds of business and entertainment, and wanted to integrate them with her keen insight for justice. Upon graduating from Vanderbilt in 1994, she headed for the doors of Thurgood Marshall School of Law to make her own mark on the business world and entertainment industry.
While in law school, Guess recognized that in addition to the entertainment business, she was also interested in wills and estates and the probate process, and sought to combine her interest in both by eventually offering these services to her clients. After becoming a member of the State Bar of Texas and a short affiliation with a boutique entertainment law firm as an associate, she founded The Guess Firm. Guess prides herself on anticipating the needs of her clients. While practicing with The Guess Firm, she has represented and worked with individuals and estates regarding wills, probate, administration and estate matters, and Multi-platinum and Gold selling artists, songwriters, and producers, as well as other renowned music business professionals. In addition to being licensed to practice before the courts of the State of Texas, she is licensed to practice before the United States Court for the Southern District of Texas.
With a sense of responsibility to cultivating an informed public, Guess has written articles, participated in panel discussions, and conducted continuing legal education seminars for the legal community concerning the practice of law, wills and trusts, entertainment law and the music business. Carol Guess is a member of the Real Estate, Probate & Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and the Entertainment and Sports Law section of the Houston Bar Association, of which she has served in leadership positions, as well as the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyer’s Association, where she served in creating legal seminars for the sports and entertainment communities and as co-chair of the scholarship committee.
Guess’ attitude of excellence is exemplified in the success she has afforded her clients. She is excited to place her unique brand on the wills and estates, entertainment and law fields through The Guess Firm.
